Mural in Ferizaj, Kosovo

I was so honored to be invited by MuralFest Kosovo and the US Embassy to paint a mural in Ferizaj! My project was funded through the US Speakers Program and my job was to paint a mural and do some teaching. For me, teaching mural painting is about jumping into a project together and seeing what happens. There are no lectures, only pep talks, teamwork, and silly fun. Mural painting is incredibly challenging, both physically and mentally, and the only way through it is to have fun. The young women on my team were absolutely brilliant; they didn’t need me to teach them at all! When I first saw the wall, it was so enormous that I thought it was impossible to finish during my short stay in the country. But my host Lebibe said, “you have to believe,” and she was right! We got it done in 10 days, and it is my favorite mural so far. The best part was making new friends!
